Hay Ride Bento

Autumn is my favorite season in Georgia, and October is my favorite month! There is so much to do and the weather is wonderful. This weekend we went apple pickin' in the mountains with some friends. After wandering through the orchard and filling our bags full of apples, we visited the petting farm (baby cows -or as some would say "calves", goats, bunnies, chickens, sheep) and then hopped on a tractor for a hay ride. The entire day was a hit. The Monkey was still talking about it this morning, I heard him excitedly explain to his teacher as he walked into class, "I went to the mountains and rode a tractor, and we picked apples!" I couldn't help but smile.

Hi there, just want to say I'm a big fan of your amazing looking bentos! They look absolutely yummy and so attractive too. I am curious to know how much time did you take to make the tractor? I have been making bento for my son who just love trucks and buses. So making a tractor for him would sure be a huge bento success!

Hi! Thanks for visiting the blog; I am glad that you are enjoying the bento lunches!

This bento as a whole took me about 10 minutes to make. I drew out the tractor the night before on a piece of parchment paper and then just placed the design over some cheese and cut it out the next morning.

I used different sized frosting tips to make the wheels, made my apple bunny, and made three small apples to put in the cart. I blanched a handful of snap peas as I did this. Then I made the sandwich and assembled everything.

Most times I plan his bento lunch the night before which makes it easier to pull together quickly in the morning. For instance I wanted to do a tractor for this lunch, I knew I had snap peas, apples, tomatoes, and blueberries, so I made a list and based on those items and went from there.

I would love to see what you do with your bento lunches! Please drop me a line when/if you post any photos.

Sounds like fun. Wasn't there an apple fair this weekend there, too? I love how there's so much to do around us! Next - pumpkin patch!

Thanks Pam for your detailed reply! I would love to try and make the tractor for my son's bento soon. I usually plan the bento lunch the night before too, but I haven't draw anything on parchment paper. I have a couple of bento photos on my blog so you are welcome to check them out! :)

Does Monkey's bento get warmed up at lunch time or he always eats it cold? Is his bento kept in fridge in school until lunchtime? I am always concerned about using cheese in my son's bento as all the lunchboxes aren't kept in fridge. Anyway, so far I have been delivering his bento just about his lunchtime to ensure freshness.

Domestic Goddess... I freeze my son's juice boxes and they act as ice to keep the food cold during the day... and thaw for drinking by lunch
